May 27-Meditating on God’s Word
Here is the passage for the week:
Judges 7:16-22, Dividing the three hundred men into three companies, he placed trumpets and empty jars in the hands of all of them, with torches inside. 17 “Watch me,” he told them. “Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do. 18 When I and all who are with me blow our trumpets, then from all around the camp blow yours and shout, ‘For the Lord and for Gideon.’” 19 Gideon and the hundred men with him reached the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just after they had changed the guard. They blew their trumpets and broke the jars that were in their hands. 20 The three companies blew the trumpets and smashed the jars. Grasping the torches in their left hands and holding in their right hands the trumpets they were to blow, they shouted, “A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!” 21 While each man held his position around the camp, all the Midianites ran, crying out as they fled. 22 When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the Lord caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords.

Praying the Word: “Lord God, it’s absolutely wonderful to see how Gideon has been changed and becomes a Mighty Warrior. From hiding in fear to being empowered by Your Spirit, Gideon calls on his small army to watch and follow his lead. It’s taken many signs and words of assurance to get him to this point, but because of Your patience and compassion, he was able to go there. That gives us hope for own faith journey. We know we can be slow to believe. Thank You for putting up with us. We also discover how wonderful Your ways are as Gideon and his men won this battle with trumpets! You promised and You delivered. You are faithful to Your word. May we be given confidence to trust You today. Praise be to Your name! Amen.”

Write out the Scripture.

Judges 7:16, Dividing the three hundred men into three companies, he placed trumpets and empty jars in the hands of all of them, with torches inside.

Observe what it is saying.

Their arsenal included trumpets, jars, and torches. Each of the men must’ve been thinking why didn’t I leave when I had a chance! How are we supposed to not only defeat the enemy but defend ourselves with these non-lethal weapons? God is full of surprises. When God promises to deliver us out of our trouble, we trust Him, not only to do so, but also His methods. God may use unconventional ways to accomplish His will so that we can clearly see and be confident that it was Him who has done what He has promised. So, don’t be surprised to be surprised by God!

Relate it to your life.

God is full of surprises revealing His glory and power to accomplish His will.

Do something.

“Lord Jesus, I am in awe of what You can do and how You choose to do it. Amen.”

Write out the Scripture.

Judges 7:17-18, “Watch me,” he told them. “Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do. 18 When I and all who are with me blow our trumpets, then from all around the camp blow yours and shout, ‘For the Lord and for Gideon.’”

Observe what it is saying.

Look at how confident Gideon is! He tells his troops to watch and follow his lead. He has finally become the Mighty Warrior he was declared to be when the angel first appeared to him. It has taken considerable time and much reassurance to get him to this point, but God didn’t give up on him. Gideon was honest with God revealing his weakness and need for additional encouragement to live out his divine calling. God’s compassionate nature shines through revealing how He works patiently with us in our transformation to become who He sees us to be.

Relate it to your life.

If God doesn’t give up on me, then I shouldn’t give up on me.

Do something.

“Jesus, thank You for your patience to willingly work with us in our transformation. Amen.”

May 30-Meditating on God’s Word
Write out the Scripture.

Judges 7:19, Gideon and the hundred men with him reached the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just after they had changed the guard. They blew their trumpets and broke the jars that were in their hands.

Observe what it is saying.

The Israelites divided the night into three watches. The “beginning of the middle watch” would be after the enemy had gone to sleep. God’s plan not only included surprising strategies but also very rational tactics that made absolute sense. Blowing of trumpets and breaking of jars wouldn’t have the impact during the day when they could be seen and when the enemy would’ve been alert and could easily respond. God’s plans are perfect in every way. Once again, we discover that God can be trusted with every detail when we are obediently doing His work. So, whatever challenges we’re facing today, God has a plan!

Relate it to your life.

God’s ways are absolutely amazing down to the smallest detail.

Do something.

“Jesus, help me to trust Your plan to be carried out just as You prescribed. Amen.”

Write out the Scripture.

Judges 7:20, The three companies blew the trumpets and smashed the jars. Grasping the torches in their left hands and holding in their right hands the trumpets they were to blow, they shouted, “A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!”

Observe what it is saying.

Even though there were only 300 soldiers, it would be an impressive light and sound show that interrupted their night’s sleep. Not only was this a surprising tactic that caused the Midianites to be completely startled, but it was also creative. Who else would’ve thought that such sound and light would be able to produce the result they were looking for? God’s creative ability is overwhelming proof of His existence and omniscience. Whenever we tap into the creative ability we’ve been given, we reveal we’ve been made in God’s image. Creativity is a divine gift that we should embrace and develop for God’s glory.

God invites us to participate in His creative work to be a witness of His glory.

Do something.

“Jesus, help me to fully use Your creativity so others can see You in me. Amen.”

June 1-Meditating on God’s Word
Write out the Scripture.

Judges 7:21-22, While each man held his position around the camp, all the Midianites ran, crying out as they fled. 22 When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the Lord caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords.

Observe what it is saying.

Normally only a small number of men in an army carried trumpets. So, the overwhelming sound of this many trumpets would indicate a vast army had surrounded them. The light of the torches and the sound of smashing jars made this all the more impressive. So much so, the Midianites became so disoriented that they turned on each other. This would happen again and again in the future as God led the Israelites to victory over their enemies. God’s plan and strategies are always reliable to give us the victory as we place our trust in Him.

Relate it to your life.

We are winners when we put our full trust in God and surrender to His will being done.

Do something.

“Jesus, I surrender my all to You because You alone hold the eternal victory. Amen.”
